The Yoga Way to Health and Well Being

The Yoga Way to Health and Well Being

Yoga is not a recent practice. It is a practice which through time, has developed and increased in significance and appeal worldwide. The rationale behind the appeal is greatly to do with the physical and psychological benefits experienced when integrating yoga into one’s daily schedule. Yoga can be viewed as a breath of fresh air in this fast paced lifestyle that we live in.

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit language and means “to integrate”. Yoga promotes a harmonious working together of the body’s components leading to both physical and mental training. Despite the fact that there are numerous forms of yoga; Hatha Yoga is still presently seen as one of the more commonly practiced yoga styles. Hatha Yoga consists of non strenuous physical exercise which aids in strengthening, stretching and balancing the body’s joints. Regular breathing is performed at the same time which aids in providing oxygen to the muscles, and in turn positively affects bodily structures and organs. The awareness required during yoga practice, ensures that mind and body have to work together to create a mind-body harmony which in turn promotes healing.

Yoga will not be a quick fix for all your aches, worries and pains. However, with regular yoga practice your body will rebalance slowly and steadily, leaving you discovering the results for yourself. Physical benefits which you can anticipate are improved efficiency of the lungs, better use of your respiratory muscles, improved flexibility of the joints, improved coordination and muscle tone, maintenance of bone density, reduced risk of injury as well as the prevention of weight gain. Psychological benefits can also include an increase in self-confidence, decreased cravings for tobacco and food, better sleep, an increased ability to relax, improved concentration as well as a reduced likelihood of depression. Yoga differentiates itself from other exercises as it draws on the entire person as a whole.

Half an hour of yoga a day, or 15 minutes of yoga twice a day, can easily be incorporated into any daily schedule. Some breathing techniques can even be practiced while working or driving home after a long day. A short routine for those of you spending hours staring at a computer screen is to take a few moments every day to glance at a distant object. This allows your eyes a moments rest from glare and a change of focus. Look left and right, up and down at least 5 times, blink at least 8 times to moisten your eyes and if it is at all possible, rest your elbows on a comfortable surface and close your eyes whilst covering them with the palm of your hands. If you can incorporate this with or without some breathing exercises, you will already be on the way to a healthier and possibly more focused lifestyle.

Baby steps everyone…no one expects you to transform overnight.

What health insurance plans cover toenail fungus medication and nail removal surgery?
Hi,

I suffer from toenail fungus, and I've tried ALL home remedies available without success. I'm also about to buy health insurance. I thought I would take this opportunity to finally visit the doctor and get rid of this problem. My questions are:

1. Which health insurance plans offer the best coverage to treat toenail fungus?
2. Do they cover the medication and the surgery required in some cases to remove the toenail?

Thank you for all your help!

yoga will help because it strengthens your core.
just work on standing up straight, keeping your shoulders back, and your chin up.
Don't hunch over when you're sitting down either.
the more you practice it will become natural to you :)
    good luck!

It is called the peepal tree.

The symbol of the Tree of Yoga is a sacred tree that shares many of the symbols of the Sacred Tree of the First Nation culture. The Tree of Yoga represents the body/mind as a temple, a body that came with and moves through life with everything it needs.

I do a form of power yoga called YRG that is high cardio, low impact that increases flexiblity and builds your core. It will also help you increase your focus. I do the online version at home with no equipment needed and no monthly fees like a gym. Namaste

Yoga helps stimulate various glands, like your lymph nodes, which do help your body properly process out all the junk in your body.

As for your joints, it's because they're weak. Make sure that you are doing the poses correctly, and adjust them if you need to. Your body will adjust, just keep at it.

You could give pilates a try, but you might find it too similar to yoga. Martial arts are great for simply staying in shape. If you aren't looking for practical self defense, then try one of the old fashioned karate styles, or perhaps you might enjoy Tai Chi. You could create your own exercise routine based on different things. A mixture of yoga, martial arts and other exercises.

You may want to try different styles depending on whether you are in a symptom-free or flare-up stage.
Things shift dramatically during flare-ups, when most sufferers experience profound fatigue. During those times,
you may want to begin with a "Restorative" style class as it focuses more on opening and breathing. It's very relaxing and easy for anyone to do. You could also try a "gentle" yoga class and see how you feel afterwards. Personally, I have found that "Yin" yoga has helped me the most with painful connective tissue issues. It involves deep stretching(mostly seated) and the poses are held for several minutes. Yin and Restorative are the most quiet of practices.

If you feel like you want something more vigouous, then you can try some vinyasa flow classes. Some people with lupus or other autoimmune diseases eventually find "hot" bikram yoga helps them feel better.

Just start slowly, honor your body and don't push yourself as yoga is non-competitive. Good luck in your practice and I know that it will help you feel better.

If ever you need a reason to DENY CONSENT for a mental health evaluation, this is certainly a start. They need your consent to “evaluate” your “health”. My advice, fwiw, is don’t give it to them.

I don't do any gym programs, just yoga and I am much stronger and leaner than I used to be. You can get a really good workout from a yoga program, if you approach it right.

First, start with classes that will teach you the poses and proper alignment. These classes are usually called Hatha Yoga. You'll need to improve your balance and flexibility a bit before moving on.

After a couple of months, move to a more challenging level. Try Vinyasa yoga, ashtanga yoga, or kundilini yoga. All three are more intense, move faster, and keep your heart rate up in the fat-burning zone.

I think you'll love yoga – plus at the end of each class there is a relaxation/meditation period that is great for destressing. I totally fell in love after the first class.

    Have fun!

They are not so much designed for fat loss as for toning and muscle shaping. I do Pilates, and it gives you amaaaazing abs as nearly every exercise works them, makes you calm and centered, and really shapes and tones your muscles. It also gives you great posture.I alternate Pilates day with gym days, so I burn fat and also work my muscles. Pilates will tone you up, but still need cardio to lose fat.I would suggest getting a beginners instructional dvd, I tried a book at first but it was too hard. The breathing is very important and hard to get right on your own.

This would probably follow the same rules as not being able to return swimwear – something along the lines of anything that might have bodily fluids on it cannot be returned.
