Congratulations! You have a job that provides health insurance benefits as part of your compensation plan. In today’s economic world, having these benefits may make you feel as though you’ve won the lottery. But before you pop the champagne, take a minute (or an hour) to read over your policy. There is a good chance that your employer has had to make some compromises in the coverage in order to provide the policy at all, so you may find that you are responsible for more of your medical expenses than you had thought. This is where supplemental health insurance can be life-saver (or at least save your savings account).
Supplemental health insurance, or “gap” insurance, is a secondary policy that pays for out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered in your primary plan such as deductibles and co-payments. Some supplemental policies even pay you a cash benefit for lost income due to illness or injury.
If you fall into any of the following five categories, you may want to think about supplemental insurance as part of your overall health insurance strategy.
1. Are you self-employed? If so, you aren’t covered at all by an employer’s health plan and you need to provide all coverage yourself. For your primary insurance, you may want to consider a catastrophic policy — which only covers major medical events and requires you to pay for office visits, prescriptions, and other minor medical care — but which comes at a much cheaper cost than comprehensive health insurance. A supplemental policy would help cover your out-of-pocket costs, and perhaps more importantly, provide a cash benefit if you become too ill or injured to work.
2. Are you responsible for your family’s health care? Remember, each person who is on your primary health plan is subject to an individual deductible and co-pay maximum, making your out-of-pocket expenses larger than an individual’s health plan might be.
3. Do you lack savings? If even a few weeks off work could mean financial disaster for your family, you may need additional insurance to provide cash benefits. These cash payments can be used to make mortgage payments and buy groceries when you’re off work because of illness or injury.
4. Are you concerned about the risk of cancer? There are certain supplemental policies that provide cash benefits to policy-holders for cancer treatments and the related expenses of treatment.
5. Do you have a pre-existing medical condition? Most health insurance plans will not provide benefits for medical conditions that existed before coverage became effective. However, a supplemental policy can sometimes be purchased to specifically cover a pre-existing condition. Not all insurers offer such coverage, but with careful shopping, you should be able to locate one to meet your needs.
As you can see, supplemental coverage is not always necessary for those who are fortunate to have a comprehensive primary policy. But for certain situations, a supplemental policy can be the difference between financial disaster and financial health.

I have seen great results with the Biotics Research products. Generally, Liquid Iodine Forte (1 drop/day for 5 weeks) and Thyrostim (3/day for 10 weeks) are needed for nutritional repair of the thyroid. Once your thyroid energy improves, some people can benefit from the Cyto-THY, a neonatal glandular, but I doubt that you would need it.
You can find more information on the product here: http://www.bioticsresearch.com/en/cms/?14 You need to work with someone who is trained in the products. You can find practioners at http://www.crahealth.org
In rare cases, some people do better with a little bit of synthetic thyroid, but in most cases it isn't need.
It is best to work with an MD or DO who isn' resistant to using nutrition when it is appropriate to your particular issue. MD's and DO's who have been trained in integrative medicine via Dr. Andrew Weil's University of Arizona's Integrative Medicine program are a good place to start. http://integrativemedicine.arizona.edu/alumni.html
You should also continue to monitor your TSH, T3 and T4 blood chemistry.
what if the pills are not avalible? do I die? Or is there some other form of natural suppliments for the tyroid?I have had mine removed and worry. What exactly is synthroid and amour made of?

To answer , Yes , Beebs is correct that All hormone drugs involve the death of an animal . There are things you can do to help improve your condition. The following are considered all aids in helping the thyroid:
"Eat foods rich in iodine, which include , kelp, sushi, onion, and garlic. Kelp is an excellent food for the thyroid; consider taking a kelp supplement.
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential; consider eating more flax or chia seeds, or taking a supplement. Earth's balance has Omega 3 and look for enriched foods with it.
Other foods that will help are: tropical fruits, radish, mushrooms, watermelon, wheat germ, and watercress.
Increase consumption of leafy green veggies. Consider taking a folic acid (folate) supplement.
Vitamin B complex is essential to proper thyroid functioning. A 50-100mg Vitamin B complex with a 1000 mg Vitamin C is highly beneficial.
Get enough fresh air, sunshine and mild exercise. Include an outdoor walk everyday for at least 15 minutes.
Selenium (found in Brazil nuts) and Glutathione both assist in the production of thyroid hormones.
Inverted yoga postures where the feet are in the air and the head against the ground (find a yoga book that has inverted postures) will help stimulate the function of the thyroid."
It certainly would not hurt to follow the above and give it a little time as your body may be low on certain nutrients.
Good luck

Most doctors who prescribe Armour should be aware that most people also need an adrenal steroid given at the same time. This could be in the form of hydrocortisone, prednisone or prednisolone…etc. The fact that you are experiencing allergies and intolerance to medications (and possibly alcohol that would be another clue) is indicative of mild adrenal insufficiency.
This could have been especially mild before treatment with Armour, but because Armour speeds up the adrenal steroid metabolism, symptoms of allergies may appear worse on treatment. This is why most people start of with a small dose of steroids each day temporarily with their thyroid medication and slowly taper off the steroids after their own body's production of steroids takes over. This may take a few weeks or even months.
Your doctor SHOULD know this, but obviously it looks like he doesn't. Try to find a good doc that recognizes MILD adrenal insufficiency as part of your thyroid replacement therapy. Good luck.
First off, do not use iodized salt. Use unrefined sea salt. You should get your iodine from seaweed. If you want it in a pill form a good product for that is http://www.modifilan.com. It's been extensively tested on Chernobyl victims actually as it detoxes radiation. It's an excellent source of iodine for thyroid function.
I have also gotten rid of my low thyroid with exercise and now have zero weight problem. Breathing and any kind of exercise from yoga to just walking does wonders. I have also found mini trampolines to be excellent.
After doing the seaweed and supplements, along with the exercise, my thyroid tested normal. This stuff works and I'm living proof for 2 years now.
It's sad when people try to say all supplements and natural medicine are bunk because they are not. Extensive studies have been done on everything from Reishi to Resveratrol proving their effectiveness. In other countries they use these remedies as standard practice. Those of us with experience can no longer be fooled by such propaganda.
You're on the right track. Radiation and heavy metals are the main reasons I've seen the thyroid get low but sometimes it also involves weakened adrenals, so the Bs and Cs are a good idea.
When shopping for supplements, it's easy to get ripped off by companies that put fillers into their products. When looking for good products, find supplements that have no fillers and use only a veg. capsule. Make SURE they are NOT synthetic. Good luck.

Among many other events.
I have hypothyroid.
There is 1 other blood value you ought to have. MDs don't usually give it. TRH. That along with TSH Free T3; Free T4; calculated T3 & calculated T4 should give you
comprehensive profile.
I don't think you need a scan.
My blood tests were not even initially out of the normal range which is very common. My MD diagnosed it by my symptoms & yes I have been on thyroid medication. I take both T3 & T 4 because my body can't convert the T4 to T3.
There is a natural hormone replacement which is called Armour Thyroid. You get it by prescription.
You might try http://www.womentowomen.com/hypothyroidism/
Good luck to you.
I saw a huge difference i how I feel when I switched to Armour thyroid. With Armour thyroid the dosage is adjusted by the free t4 and free t3, not by the TSH. The TSH is a loust yest anyways because TSH changes throughout the day and depending on what time of day one tests, they woul get a different reading. Armour related links below.
You should be fine. With calcium supplements you want to wait 4 hours, but with food or any type of caffeine an hour or more is OK.
I take my first dose of Armour around 7:00 AM by swallowing, then go back to sleep. When I wake I eat breakfast. In the afternoon, I take my second dose of Armour around 3PM. With this dose, I put at the gum line and near the inner cheek and let it dissolve. That way, it interferes with nothing
